IN THE month since Jamie Hook landed the golf professional job at Pacific Dunes he has made inroads to expanding the game amongst the junior and female ranks.

The former PGA touring professional said he hoped to make “some positive changes” at the Medowie golf course.

“I hope to bring with me some knowledge and understanding of the game from a professional level,” he said.

“This will allow me to interact with the members and share some stories. I also hope to bring some positive changes and give members and guests a warm, welcome feeling here.”

Hook, who started at the golf course in late May, has already reinvigorated its weekly children’s clinics and planned to launch beginners and advanced ladies classes.

Hook landed his role at Pacific Dunes fresh off the touring circuit.

The 24-year-old started playing golf at Charlestown Golf Club when he was 12.

In 2011, when playing off + handicaps and pennants for Moore Park in Sydney and national tournaments, Hook decided that he would make golf his career.

He completed his PGA traineeship at Charlestown in 2014 and went to the Australasia Qualifying School where he gained a tour card for the 2015 Season.

During 2015 Hook played throughout Australia, New Zealand, New Caledonia and Fiji, finishing 42nd on the money list and kept his touring card for the 2016 season.

Hook’s best finishes were 15th at the Fiji International, 23rd in the New Zealand Open, 33rd at the Australian Masters and 44th in the Australian PGA.

Most recently he finished 8th at the Western Australia PGA.

Pacific Dunes general manager Kurt Linde said he reached out to Hook directly when they were searching for a golf professional as he had “a great reputation and golfing career” with “great traits seen as being very valuable”.

“We are thrilled that Jamie has taken on the role,” Linde said.

“His passion for golf, not only playing but providing service and expertise to the broader golfing community will be an asset to members, staff and the business of Pacific Dunes.”
